PedalCell teams with OYAMA Bikes for CABDA Midwest

CHICAGO’S PEDALCELL TEAMS WITH OYAMA BICYCLES AT CABDA MIDWEST BICYCLE INDUSTRY SHOW FEBRUARY 13-14

mHUB Start-Up Company to Demonstrate Its State-of-the-Art PedalCell Bicycle Power Platform on OYAMA’s Folding Bicycles

CHICAGO, IL — (February 11, 2019) — Chicago mHUB-based start-up PedalCell will join Oyama Bicycles, a worldwide leader in folding bicycles, at the CABDA Midwest bicycle industry show February 13-14 at Chicago’s Renaissance Shaumberg Convention Center & Hotel, 1551 N. Thoreau Drive North, Shaumberg, IL. PedalCell will be demonstrating its new PedalCell technology on several OYAMA folding bicycle models in Booth 948. PedalCell is the first onboard power source that delivers stable and consistent electricity in a compact design to power smart bicycle technologies including fast charging of mobile devices, intelligent lighting, fitness devices and safety systems.

Adam Hokin, co-founder & COO of PedalCell, said that Oyama folding bicycles provide a great case study on how PedalCell can be easily integrated on folding bicycle models to deliver safe, stable power, eliminating the need for charging by commuters and recreational riders. PedalCell is provided to bicycle manufacturers under two integrations — a retrofit spec compatible with a wide range of existing bicycles or embedded in a bicycle frame enabling the most optimized solution with internal cabling and compact dimensions.

PedalCell uses rider motion to deliver stable, capable and consistent power, up to 20 watts, from a discrete front fork generator that adjusts the pedal resistance in real time for minimal drag to the cyclist. The power is then managed in the PedalCell smart power hub which is mounted near the bicycle rider. The Hub provides real-time power filtering and management and is available in integrated or modular options to bicycle manufacturers.

“Technology is making bicycles smarter than ever before. Yet our customers have had to rely on the constraints of current inadequate power sources, such as batteries and dynamos, to enable an increasingly wide array of mobile cycling solutions and devices,” said Hokin, who co-founded PedalCell in 2017. “Our CABDA demonstration with OYAMA will show that PedalCell has the ability to power the current and next generation of bicycles promoting greater safety, connectivity and overall increase the joy of cycling.”

PedalCell will be featured on two of Oyama’s most popular models — the Skyline In7B, a conventional folding bicycle that features an internal seven-gear hub and innovative belt drive, instead of a chain; and the CXE8DII, its flagship electric folding bicycle that features a state-of the-art torque sensor and industry leading controller providing 8 levels of pedal assist and a range of nearly 30 miles per charge.

PedalCell was founded in 2017 by CEO Vishaal Mali and COO Hokin and later joined by CTO Gar Waterman. The company is currently headquartered in Chicago’s mHUB, an innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing. Mali is pursuing a Computer Engineering degree at Northwestern University. Waterman completed Masters in Engineering Design Innovation at Northwestern University. Hokin is completing a degree in Sales, Marketing & Entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. PedalCell has been awarded the 2018 Future Founders Student Startup of the Year Award, and first place in the Michigan Business Challenge Seigle Impact Track, and is partnered with the Northwestern Sustainability Fund and Sustain NU to promote environmentally friendly mobility. PedalCell is currently partnered with a list of Midwest organizations under its Project Trailblazer program, including Boober Tours and the Northwestern Cycling Team, among others.
