PedalCell Install

We’re excited to get you up-and-running. Installation shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes. This page details how to install on the front fork. Click below to view how to install on the rear frame.

While PedalCell can be mounted on most bikes, we do not recommend mounting with:

The following provided in the box:

PedalCell can either be mounted with the generator pointing forward on the right side of the fork or pointing backward on the left side.

Hub brakes (discs or drums) can mount on the left or right while rim brakes (caliper and cantilever) should mount on the left.

Move PedalCell into its decoupled position (comes out of the box this way). DO NOT PIVOT GENERATOR AWAY WHILE IN THIS POSITION. To put PedalCell in its decoupled position, pivot the Generator and Clamp opposite the spring force until the two pieces meet. You should hear a “click” confirming the Spring Lock has set. You can confirm that the Generator is locked by seeing the locking plunger recess in its groove. A slight push may be needed to help the plunger recess in its groove. Rotate the knurl if the locking plunger won’t recess.

Loosely insert PedalCell’s left 30mm fastener, place the clamp jaw around the bottom of your fork, then loosely insert the right 40mm fastener.

Insert a mounting spacer on the inside of the clamp.

If your fork is a larger ellipse, closer to 50mm wide, you can skip this step. PedalCell should be able to work without a spacer on these larger forks.

Smaller forks should use the larger spacer and larger forks should use the smaller spacer. The spacers align with the rubber insert located on the inside of the clamp.

Move PedalCell up the fork until its generator is roughly in-line with the top of your rim. If it’s not perfectly aligned, don’t worry. We’ll adjust its angle later.

Ensure that PedalCell’s cable is routed through the clamp’s cable hooks. Never pull on the cable directly to reduce strain from the water sealed grommet. Tighten the fasteners on PedalCell’s clamp until the device is sufficiently fixed to the fork. It is normal to hear creaking noises while tightening. There should be little vertical or horizontal movement once tightened.

Adjust the Generator’s angle. Start by making sure the spring lock is engaged. Then, slightly loosen the Generator’s angle-adjust fastener. Now, the Generator can be moved freely.

A tape measure, ruler, or any other straight object can be used to optimize the alignment. A straight line should be able to cross through the center of your hub through the Generator. Once finished, tighten the angle-adjust screw. It is normal to hear creaking noises while tightening. Unlock the generator by pulling backward opposite the spring force and pulling the plunger. You may need to do this more than once to get an ideal alignment.

Always ensure that the Generator cable is routed through the clamp’s cable hooks. Never pull on the cord directly. The Smart Power Hub can be installed on a variety of places on your bike such as your handlebars, stem or frame. The Smart Power Hub’s strap orientation can optionally be adjusted with the included allen key. You can also secure CadenceX’s cable by wrapping it around the Power Hub’s base and zip ties to avoid tangles and slack. The included green circle sticker can be installed on the top of CadenceX to identify when the product is activated.
